R.S. Cotterill papers : letters and typescript, 1959-1982.

This collection consists of a typescript of a manuscript written by Robert S. Cotterill. The manuscript, called: "History of Fleming County," is only a rough draft. It consists of 47 pages and notes for each chapter. The rest of the collection consists of correspondence between Cotterill and G. Glen Clift. The letters concern possible publication of the manuscript if a publisher could be found. The letters also discussed the use of the manuscript by researchers at the Kentucky Historical Society and possible microfilming of the material.

Robert Spencer Cotterill, historian and educator, was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, in 1884, at the now forgotten village of Battle Run. Cotterill was one of the founding members of the Southern Historical Association and a member of the history department at the University of Louisville. In 1928, he joined the history department at the Florida State College of Women (now Florida State University). Biographical note: G. Glenn Clift was a frequent contributor to THE REGISTER OF THE KENTUCKY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. He served as assistant secretary of the society and in 1960 became assistant director and editor. He held these positions until his death in 1970.
